Busy Flag Cleared Only On Success

#12uncommon66 sightingsfirst seen September 2026

What goes wrong

An 'in progress' flag or reservation is cleared only on the success path (or only by the code that set it), not when the run ends any other way — error, cancel, crash. A run that fails leaves the flag set: retries are refused until it expires, or the screen shows 'processing' next to a final 'failed'.

Example

A 'processing' lock is set at the start of a job and deleted at the end of the success branch; the job throws halfway, and every retry for the next hour is refused as 'already running'.

Not to be confused with

The record does reach its final state and that verdict is correct; not a false 'done' claim (Unearned Completion Report) and not a lock or lease that expires too early.
